It has been hailed as a “Bridge to the future” by Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond – this is the new bridge in South Queensferry to span the river forth and it’s called the “Queensferry Crossing”.
Business Opportunities in South Queensferry
The new bridge will complement the existing 2 bridges at Queensferry – the Forth Road Bridge and the Forth Rail Bridge. It is also set to provide and economic boost to the local economy and provide extra business opportunities in South Queensferry. It is also hoped that it will boost the Scottish economy as a whole.
The bridge will be completed by the end of 2016. During the construction up to 1,200 persons will be employed directly and contracts have been awarded to around 334 Scottish firms, who are working either directly in construction or being employed as sub-contractors.
Mr Salmond is quoted as saying: “The Forth replacement crossing is the country’s biggest and most significant transport infrastructure project for decades and I’m delighted that the naming process has enabled so many thousands of people to get involved and rightly feel a sense of ownership for a bridge that will serve Scotland and its economy for many years to come.”
