Closure of the Forth Road Bridge was certainly something that was never foreseen 50 years ago the bridge opened. However, a sever crack in the north tower has closed the bridge to all traffic. This is having a major impact on local economies on both the south and north shores. This week an inquiry is opened into why the bridge had to be closed.
Impact of Forth Road Bridge Closure
What has been the impact of the closure of the Forth Road Bridge? One of the towns directly affected by this is South Queensferry. This is where the control office for the Forth Road Bridge and the Queensferry Crossing bridge are located.
The closure of the bridge has impacted businesses in South Queensferry. Over 90% of businesses rely on passing trade. This is from drivers travelling to the north of Scotland who would normally stop for a meal or just a break. Now traffic is being re-routed away from the town and over the Kincardine and Clackmananshire bridges.
As an initiative to drive business back to South Queensferry Marketing Edinburgh has joined up with Edinburgh District council to help businesses draw in more business at this usually busy time of year.
