Forth Road Bridge to Reopen Early

December 22, 2015 By Scott Gibson 1 Comment

This is certainly good news for most people living in Edinburgh, Fife and South Queensferry. The Forth Road Bridge is to reopen on Wednesday morning. Since it closed a few week ago it has brought chaos to drivers, local businesses and people in general.

Traffic will start flowing again from Wednesday.

The bridge will still be closed to HGVs and work will continue, even though traffic will start going over the bridge again. Officials in charge of the repairs have stated that the repair on the crack has been finished ahead of schedule.

A full inspection of the Forth Bridge is almost complete and no further cracks were noticed. Click to Tweet

Derek Mackay, transport minister for Scotland said he is pleased that the bridge can be opened ahead of schedule. He is quoted as saying: “Following rigorous testing and inspection of the temporary repair, experts have recommended the bridge is now ready to open to all traffic except HGVs.”

So it is certainly good news for everyone on the east coast.

Many local businesses, especially in South Queensferry, have felt the impact of the closure with losses of £1,000 a day for some companies. What are your experiences of the bridge closure? Let us know here.
